A very large THANK YOU to all who participated in the Walmart Kids Recycling Challenge in the past. We love that you all have gotten so good at recycling!
Since we have neither the Parent Volunteer, nor the additional space necessary, we will not be recycling plastic bags as a School project this year.
Please don't put plastic shopping bags in the Waste Management bins for recycle, as they currently aren't getting recycled through WM and you'll only pollute the recycle stream. Plastic shopping bags that go in the regular trash not only are not readily biodegradable under any normal circumstance, but pose a threat to animals, who may ingest the bags. Through the eyes of a sea turtle, plastic bags look like their favorite food (jellyfish).
Please continue to recycle your bags through other recycle opportunities. Most of the other elementary schools in Livermore are likely taking part again in the Walmart Kids Recycling Challenge. Additionally, grocery stores in Livermore offer a place (usually towards the front of the store) for you to deposit your used or worn-out bags for recycle.
And don't forget about the other 2 R's. As the kids can all tell you, it's not just about Recycling, it's about Reducing and , Reusing. Many of the local grocery stores are offering sturdy reusable bags.
