Principal Greeting
Greetings Sunset Families,
Thank you for all the kindness and goodies you have bestowed on the entire staff during Staff Appreciation Week at Sunset. We are very appreciative of everything you do to make us feel special.
California Standardized Testing (CST) will be taking place for 4th grade from April 29th-May 3rd. Fourth graders will be taking the test during this time period because of their Malakoff field trip. Students in 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades will be taking the test from May 6th-May 17th. Our students have been working diligently for this important assessment, so please ensure your child gets enough rest, has a nutritious breakfast, and is at school every day on time. We will get the state testing results in the summer.
You will have an opportunity to see how hard the students have worked throughout this year during Open House on May 23 from 6:30-7:30 pm. We hope you can attend this important event.
"Everyone has inside them a piece of good news. The good news is you don’t know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is.” ~Anne Frank~
Sincerely,
Kuljinder Sekhon, Sunset Principal

The event will take place on the grass fields behind the school. Students will bring home pledge sheets so they can ask for sponsorships for their walk. They can collect a one time donation or earn money for each lap completed. Pledge sheets and more information will be sent home soon. We need lots of parent volunteers for the event, please contact Marilee Geissbuhler or Maggie Tufts if you would like to help or if you have any questions.

Treasurer Update
Hello Sunset Families,
Our last fundraiser of the year is the Walk-a-Thon scheduled for May 17th. If each student could raise $20, we can far exceed our goal of $13,500. Parents please help our students succeed in this challenge by assisting them to get pledges from aunts, uncles, grandparents, and friends. As we proved at the Gala, we can do it!!! Thank you!!
Keep checking your groceries for Box Tops, Labels for Education and Tyson labels. You will find them on Gogurts, Goldfish, Campbell's Soup cans, Betty Crocker products, Kleenex boxes, Ziploc products and most of your favorite cereals. It's an easy way to help our school earn much needed supplies. Just turn them into the orange cereal boxes in your child's classroom. Be sure to include your child's name on the envelope. For a more complete list of participating products, check out the PTO website.
Book Club
As the school year comes to end, also does our our Sunset Book Club. This years has been an amazing success, with over 80 children participating and lots of parent volunteers. Thank you all for being part of this Club, it has been great because of all of you, the children and the parents. Our last Book Club meeting is May 21st, at 7:45am in the MPR. The first week of June we will have our last gathering to celebrate a great year in Sunset Book Club.
Due to the popularity and success of the program during the 2012-13 school year, Early Enrollment for next school year is opening this month. Enrollment forms will go home with the students on the second week of May, and will be posted on the School and PTO website.
Are you interested in volunteering with Book Club? Would you like to be a leader or helper next year? Please contact, Book Club coordinator, Maggie Tufts.
Join Sunset's Breakfast Book Club. It's a fun way to start the day and a fun way to encourage the joy of reading!
